First Thursday is just around the corner, and Cape Tonians will be braving the chill of the June evening to celebrate this monthly affair. Don’t be fooled into thinking that the cold will be keeping the locals at bay; in fact, it is even more excuse to keep the parties going in all of the spots around town. We thought we would take a look at what you should be checking out this Thursday in and around town to keep the blood pumping through your veins. So, bundle up, grab a glass of vino and join us for the next installment of First Thursday Cape Town style!

You can expect outdoor beer and hotdog stands as well as barrel aged cocktail specials on their famous shake and bake board.

FUKUSHIMA SALMON will be behind the decks making sure that you keep moving the whole night to some of the latest beats. He humbly rates himself as the best DJ in the world, so we have no doubt that you will be in good hands.

The Toast at Nomad Bistro Bar

Nomad will be going big this month with a live music from Cape Town’s biggest up and coming bands as well as an art exhibition. Get down the bistro early to check out the art exhibition by local painter, Johnny van Zyl. Johnny will be showcasing his latest emotive exhibition from 7pm. All of his exhibitions have given back to the less fortunate in some way, and this particular one will be in aid of buying a braille laptop for Leigh Davids. Leigh is a young girl with a very rare eye disease called MIDAS syndrome and will be able to attend a mainstream school.

From 9pm, the temperature will be turned up a few levels as the three acts take to the stage. Opening the night will be hip hop duo, The Dertykids with their funky raps and dirty sounds, and just following them will be FENRIS. FENRIS blends live instruments, beats and rap lyrics in celebration of old school hip hop.

Cape Town’s latest band to hit the music scene, The Toast, will be topping off the evening with one of their first public performances. The SAMA award winning duo have been working for two years in the studio to craft a brand new genre, called RapRave (RaRa) to turn the music industry on its head. Their performance is highly energetic, almost theatrical and entertainingly surprising. So make sure you don’t miss out!

First Thursday at Selvedge Men’s Clothing

Last month saw the launch of this brand new, and very stylish brand, in their new shop at the top of Long Street. The brand prides themselves in creating men and unisex clothing that is unique, stylish and easy to wear. As the name means self-edge, the brand embodies a self-finished edge of fabric that prevent unravelling or fraying.

June First Thursday will notch it up a level by bringing local artist Paul Painting, into the shop to show off his latest work. Wine estate Ernst Gouws and Co. will be ensuring that you have a glass of their decadent wine in your hand while you browse the pieces and take in the artwork. If wine is not your thing, Larger on Tap-Redemption Larger will make sure you don't go thirsty. So, don’t miss this event which combines our three favourite elements; wine, art and fashion into one stylish evening.
