We were hanging with the Comedians at NOMAD Bistro in Central Cape Town & came to know that an amazing New York Comedian & Performer is gracing their stage tonight! Dan Frigolette - as seen on Trending SA, The Stuart Taylor Show and HBO's Boardwalk Empire is here to warm up the audiences on cold winter evenings. We spoke to him today:
Q: What has been your top 3 learnings as a Comedian in New York & other parts of the world?
A: “Knowing your audience” and being one in the community you are performing is important, but actually speaking the universal language of comedy is more crucial. Making sure your comedic premises are true and universal is the key to comedy. Nothing nudges you more into knowing that than performing in other countries.
Q: When is your next big Gig in Cape Town? What would you like to tell your fans for visiting?
A: I can’t imagine I have Fans in Cape Town just yet : ). It is my first time after all. I have at least one show per night and sometimes more.
Tuesday - Nomad Bistro & Bar
Wednesday & Thursday - Cape Town Comedy Club
Friday- Golden Oldies
Saturday - One Man Show at Fire and Ice Casino 5pm
also Saturday - Nomad Bar and Bistro at 7.30pm
Sunday - Cape Town Comedy Club
Come and see me! And come talk to me after! I’m here just one week and I want to talk to everyone and see everything!
Q: What are your 3 best experiences in Cape Town as a city?
A: So far? I’ve been in town for two hours, so:
1: Landing Safely
2: Riding the myCiti bus and seeing/entering Cape Town for the first time
3: I’m eating a perfect Ribeye Steak with Sweet Potato Fries as I’m doing this interview
4-500: Looking forward to comedy comedy comedy comedy and hiking.
Q: If you had to tell a tourist to go for one activity on his last day in Cape Town, which one would it be?
A: I’m that tourist! Tell me which one to do! Tweet at me @danfrigolette
I’m going to try to hike and meet as many people as I can!
Q: What's the greatest fear you've had to overcome to get where you are today?
A: I was actually very shy for a time. In middle school and for a few years at University. Sometimes being a newcomer is overwhelming and it’s easier to hide or runaway than to put yourself out there.
Q: What's the one thing you'd like to achieve in 2018?
A: 2018 has been an eye opener. I’ve flown to foreign lands with no set relationships and Its half way through and I’m in South Africa for the second time! As it relates to this interview?— in 2018 I would like to become a valuable comedian to the South African community both here and in Joburg.
Honestly I want to be a valuable comedian to any new community I enter. It’s vital to my success in this business. I believe it is also very important for me to bring something to those scenes and communities not just take.
Being accepted by other comedians is a true comics goal. We share a common viewpoint. We understand one another.
Q: How does Comedy inspire you?
A: The fact that Comedy has brought me to South Africa and more specifically to one of the most gorgeous places on Earth inspires me. It asks me to work hard and harder and continue to grow myself and the art form. Comedy is what sustains me. Without it, sort of everything else becomes irrelevant.
