The first time I heard the name of this brand new bar in town, I thought that I simply have to go and check it out! And now, I can’t get enough!
Prison, House of Rebels is slap bang in the middle of the buzzy nightlife of Green Point, and makes for a welcome addition to the area. It is certainly one of a kind with its very alternative persona amd sets itself aside from everything in and around the suburb. Taking over the old Beulah premises, Kaitlyn, the owner, it has facelifted the space into an interesting and grungy area.
It has everything and more of what you would want for a bar with a name, Prison, House of Rebels.Chains and handcuffs hanging from the ceiling, cages set up around the stage, and art pieces scattered around the whole floor. The theme is carried through the entire venue with dashes of luxury chic filtered in to give the venue a gorgeously balanced feel.
There is a pool table tucked into a corner, high-backed couches to spend hours lazing on, and a rooftop with panoramic views of the city.
The venue’s grunginess is even further heightened by the playlist, which for me, is one of the most important aspects of any venue. You will hear anything from Sisters of
Mercy to Led Zeppelin, to Blink 182. I spend more time singing along to my favourite rock classics than I do actually socializing with the fellow patrons around the bar, and I am more than happy with that!
Prison has become and is growing into Green Point’s top event spots! The space allows for so much that Kaitlyn has allowed her imagination to go wild. Most Saturdays will see a live band taking to the stage, and I have already danced the night away to The Toast and Dukes of Note under the flashing lights. She hosts karaoke nights (once again, a night where I lost my voice), burlesque shows and comedy nights.
If that’s not all, the rooftop opens up plenty more opportunity for fun! This weekend, the Brewers Collective will be hosting the first of any Beer fests! You can spend the afternoon browsing the various breweries, tasting, and in the evening, watch bands like Brynn and Jackal and the Wind on the stage.
I, for one, am certainly going to be frequenting this brand new gem very often, and with the drink specials, as well as with the Clink app, I know that it’s not going to cost an arm and a leg!
