The highly anticipated battle of the singers, DJs and bands, Cape Town Unwired kicked off at Nomad Bistro to what can only be described as a glorious start. The atmosphere was electric as fans, family, friends and strangers alike came out to support the four solo artistes that went head to head. The four namely, Milan Bekker, Ryan Nunan, Emma Jean and Branton Charles brought their proverbial A-game and did not disappoint the 90+ audience members.
With every show there is bound to be that one person who steals the show but last night it was hard to decipher who exactly that was. Each solo act had a unique approach to their craft, no one act could be considered the same as the last. From Milan Bekker whose vocal delivery is more soulful, Ryan Nunan can best be described as more jazzy, Emma Jean with mellow, serene, soulful compositions and Branton Charles also known as B Charles, who headlined the show had the crowd on their feet as took people back n time with renditions of classics like Eric Benet's Georgie Porgie and Neyo's So Sick.
After the show I spoke to Branton who was happy with his performance but promised to bring out the "big guns"in the next coming rounds of the contest. Emma Jean who songs are inspired by perspective, the way people view things started singing when she was eleven. She is currently studying but intends to take up music full time one day.
For those who missed the inaugural event it's not too late to witness the crop of Cape Town's best undiscovered talent as the contest will culminate in a Grand Finale set for 29-31 August. Every week till then from Thursday to Saturday the show will go on, get more information and tickets right here.
